Mahi Livain was born in Amsterdam and grew up in the Netherlands, until she moved to the US at age 19. Now based in Miami, she has lived in the Caribbean, Florida and California. Her home is a sailboat on which she has sailed the Western Caribbean, the Southeastern US and the US East Coast from Baltimore to Key West with her husband and son.
